Movie Convention Research 'The Batman'
Hey everyone we hope you are all having a great day and welcome to our blog! 'The Batman' is an action movie that has swept the stage upon its release. In today's blog we will be diving into what elements the directors use to create such a beautiful action film.
In a typical action movie, it starts out with a lot of action. In 'The Batman' instead of a high-action scene to set up the movie they take a different approach. They do start out with a sudden death as most action movies do; however no action actually took place. This movie is also set at night which makes it a noir movie. They go against conventions of a movie typically being filmed during the day, especially an action movie. This movie is able to film at night and still get some high quality action shots even in the dark due to the technology that we have today. For example, in Batman's face off with the penguin, he seemingly defeats the penguin and walks off with the car exploding. This has a great effect because the explosion contrasts well in their dark. In the movie, the character 'Catwoman' is introduced. This is a female character who takes the role of an anti villain which is uncommon for a female. 'The Batman' goes against conventions and has this female character take the role of danger. While this is true they do follow the convention of a conventionally attractive woman being with a rich man. In society, the rich man typically is with an attractive woman due to the money he has. Another convention they follow is the rich man having the power. In the Batman, Bruce Wayne has a substantial amount of money which allows him to have certain privileges. They go against the convention of a rich man being a bad person, as I analyzed rather movie I noticed Bruce Wayne liked to do the right thing. The villain 'The Riddler' goes against the convention that supervillains have to be strong and have powers.
We personally enjoy the convention of Catwoman having such an independent, strong role. It's important to have woman empowerment in society and this movie does a great job of inspiring women around the world to just be themselves. Catwoman is a different, peculiar character who doesn't have a lot of similarities with society. This character teaches women that being non-reliant on a man is okay and should be normalized. On the other hand we also enjoy the role Batman plays. Usually, when someone's parents die they go into exile and give up. Now instead of becoming weak, Bruce Wayne took on the role of an anti-hero who decided to help those who are helpless.
We personally don't enjoy the convention of money gives you power. In this movie, there are a lot of scenes of people of higher financial status who get into secret societies and are allowed to get away with crimes because they have the money to back it up. We also really enjoy how 'The riddler' goes against conventions. In the movie he uses his brain to cause catastrophic damage when usually someone who's strong and big would be the one to do so. We find this convention really clever and we enjoy this one very much.
