Creative Critical Reflection

1.      How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?

I used conventions by using a typical scenario of someone working out. Typically, people are tired after a long day, and they don’t want to work out. My group and I used this to display our product to show how effective it is. This commercial represents social groups because the actors are very diverse. I'm White/Asian, and Billy is Black. I also represented the issue of not having the energy to get through an exercise. In todays society there are a lot of people who are unmotivated to work. In this commercial we introduce Beyond Raw lit to assist in this issue. This commercial mainly represents athletes and those who workout.

How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?

This product engages with the audience because a lot of people can relate to our commercial. I used an enactment of what it is like to work out, and it engages the audience because it’s entertaining. My group and I made our commercial comical and a little hype at the same time. My group and I used this commercial in a real media text because it follows the guidelines of a pre-workout commercial and it is cinematic as well., I came up with the story. I suggested the use of a nice scenery to grab the audiences attention. The beach is a great place to get a workout in and this may motivate people to purchase our product and workout at the beach. I also integrated nice colors and quality to engage the audiences eyes.

How did your production skills develop throughout this project?

At first, I wasn’t sure on how to make a commercial; I’ve seen a lot, but I never knew how to make one. As time went on, I analyzed commercials and picked up on the strategies used to make one. I learned to shoot every scene 3 times because you want to get the best shot. I also learned how to edit some transitions as well as bridging sounds together. I didn’t record the commercial, but I also got an idea of the angles that are needed to create certain effects. I had no idea of how to use any buttons to create the transitions and I was taught. I also learned to figure out what clips are best to grab an Audiences attention, lots of cutting had to be done. I learned what softwares are the best to edit as well. I also learned how to bridge scenes and editing a fade out.

How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?

I used YouTube to research the commercials necessary and the internet to analyze the beyond raw lit pre-workout. The camera used was a Sony A 6000 which produces high quality film. We edited using a software called Filmora which costs money but it’s an advanced software. The high quality allowed us to get shots that we wouldn't usually be able to get. The microphone was was also very high quality so it was easy to have dialogue in the commercial . The tripod was used to keep the camera stable and get all the right shots so it doesn't look shaky . Using the editing software allowed me to combine all the clips .
